㉔Make a Static Powered Dancing Ghost (정전기 힘으로 춤추는 유령)
Today we were playing around with some balloons (which we often do when things get slow) and we had an idea to add a Halloween twist to a familiar static experiment. It is really quite a lot of fun and super simple. For this bit of spooky science you will need very simple items.
오늘은 풍선을 가지고 좀 놀아볼까 해요. 우리가 주로 별 특별한 일이 없을때 풍선을 가지고 잘 놀죠? 이번 실험은 정전기 실험과 비슷한 내용을 가지고 가을의 대표적 축제인 할로윈 분위기도 만들어 보는 실험이예요. 이번 실험은 정말 재미있고, 무척 쉬운 것이예요. 아주 간단한 물품들을 이용해서 좀 공포감이 있는 실험을 즐겨보세요!
■ Material (실험 재료)
A piece of tissue paper (미용 티슈) / A balloon (풍선) / Scissors (가위) / A head of hair (머리카락) / Spooky Music (optional) (무서운 음악 – 선택사항)
■ Procedure (실험 방법/절차)
First cut out a ghost shape in the tissue as shown about 1.5 inches (4 cm) long and add some eyes with a marker. If you are using 2-ply tissues, peel apart the 2 layers to get the tissue as thin as possible. Cut out a few ghosts for more fun and place them on a flat surface. You might want to make some out of regular paper to compare. (Some readers found slightly heavier ghosts easier to control.)
먼저 사진에서 보여지는 것처럼 티슈를 약 4cm 정도 되는 유령 모양으로 자르고 싸인펜으로 눈을 그리세요. 티슈가 2겹이면 한 겹을 떼어버리고 아주 얇게 만드세요. 유령모양의 종이 인형을 몇개 더 자르고 판판한 평면에 놓아 주세요. 일반 종이도 잘라서 실험을 통해 비료해 보아도 되요. (어떤 독자들은 조금 무게가 있는 유령이 더 움직이기 쉽다고 하기도 해요.)
Blow up the balloon and tie it. Then rub it really fast through your hair for about 10 seconds. This will add a static charge.
풍선을 입으로 불어서 묶으세요. 풍선을 머리에 대고 약 10초간 문지르세요. 이것이 정전기를 발생시킬거예요.
Slowly bring the balloon near the ghost, and the ghost will begin to rise toward the balloon. (Our ghost “arms” actually reached toward the balloon as we got it near.) If the balloon is charged enough, the ghost will rise and float right up to the balloon, even when it is several inches away. With a little practice, you can get the ghost to rise, float, and even dance around.
풍선을 유령 가까이 가져가 보세요, 그러면 유령이 풍선쪽으로 서서히 일어나기 시작할 거예요. (우리 유령의 팔이 풍선쪽으로 뻗어나오는 것을 볼 수 있을 거예요. 만약 풍선이 충분한 정전기를 보유하게 되면 조금 멀리 떨어져 있어도 유령이 바로 일어나서 풍선쪽으로 서게 될 거예요. 조금만 연습하게 되면 유령을 일어나게 할 수 있고, 붕붕 떠다니게 할 수 있고, 심지어는 춤추게도 할 수 있어요.)
■ TIP: The easiest way to make the ghost rise without it sticking to the balloon is to tape the very tip of the bottom of the ghost to a table. The ghost will rise and move along with the balloon. With a good charge, the balloon can control the ghost from several inches away.
유령이 풍선에 달라 붙지 않고 일어나게 할 수 있는 가장 쉬는 방법은 유령의 아래쪽 끝 부분을 테이블에 테이프로 붙이는 거에요. 정전기만 알맞게 잘 충전하게 되면 풍선이 유령을 2-3cm 거리에서 조정할 수 있어요.
■ Scientific Explanation (과학적 설명)
When you rub the balloon through your hair, invisible electrons (with a negative charge) build up on the surface of the balloon. The electrons have the power to pull very light objects (with a positive charge) toward them – in this case, the tissue ghost!
풍선을 머리에 문지르게 되면 여러분도 아시다시피 보이지 않는 음성의 정전기가 풍선의 표면에 형성되게 되요. 정전기는 양성의 가벼운 물체를 끌어당기게 되어있는데 이 경우에는 종이 유령이 되는 것이예요.
