⑳Make a Tornado in a Bottle (병안에 회오리 만들기)
Learn how to make a tornado in a bottle with this fun science experiment for kids. Using easy to find items such as dish washing liquid, water, glitter and a bottle you can make your own mini tornado that’s a lot safer than one you might see on the weather channel. 병안에 회오리를 만드는 신나는 과학 실험을 배워 봐요! 우리 주변에서 쉽게 찾을 수 있는 주방세제, 물, 반짝이 가루 그리고 병을 이용해서 날씨 방송에서 볼 수 있는 회오리보다 훨씬 안전한 여러분만의 미니 회오리를 만들 수 있어요. 순서를 잘 따라서 여러분이 만드는 시원한 물 소용돌이를 즐겨 보세요!
■ Material (실험 재료)
Water 물
A clear plastic bottle with a cap (that won't leak) 투명한 플라스틱 병 (물이 새지 않는 것으로)
Glitter (반짝이 가루)
Dish washing liquid (주방세제)
■ Procedure (실험 방법/절차)
Fill the plastic bottle with water until it reaches around three quarters full 플라스틱 병에 물을 약 ¾ 정도 채워주세요
Add a few drops of dish washing liquid 주방세제 몇방울을 안에 떨어뜨려 주세요.
Sprinkle in a few pinches of glitter (this will make your tornado easier to see). 반짝이 가루 조금을 뿌려주세요. (이것이 회오리를 더 쉽게 볼 수 있도록 해줄거예요.)
Put the cap on tightly. (뚜껑을 단단히 닫아주세요.)
Turn the bottle upside down and hold it by the neck. Quickly spin the bottle in a circular motion for a few seconds, stop and look inside to see if you can see a mini tornado forming in the water. You might need to try it a few times before you get it working properly. (물병을 거꾸로 들고 뚜껑있는 쪽을 단단히 잡아주세요. 물병을 돌리는 동작으로 빨리 몇초동안 돌려주세요, 그리고 멈추고, 물이 미니 회오리를 만드는지 병 안쪽을 살펴보세요. 제대로 회오리가 일어나게하기 위해서는 몇번 반복해서 시도해 봐야해요.)
■Scientific Explanation (과학적 설명)
Spinning the bottle in a circular motion creates a water vortex that looks like a mini tornado. The water is rapidly spinning around the center of the vortex due to centripetal force (an inward force directing an object or fluid such as water towards the center of its circular path). Vortexes found in nature include tornadoes, hurricanes and waterspouts (a tornado that forms over water).
병을 회전하는 모양으로 돌리면 미니 회오리처럼 보이는 물 소용돌이를 만들게 되요. 구심력 (원형운동의 가운데로 물과 같은 액체나 물체를 안쪽으로 잡아당기는 힘)때문에 소용돌이의 가운데 주변으로 물이 빠른 속도로 돌아가게 되요. 소용돌이는 회오리바람, 허리케인, 물분수 (물위에 만들어 지는 회오리) 등의 자연 현상에서 발견되요.
